Freelance Ring Light Innovation: From Concept to Reality

Date

April 2021

Role

Electro-Mechanical Engineer

Objective:
To design and prototype a ring light that meets customer requirements, including attachment to a selfie stick and providing adequate lighting for selfies and videos.

Project Description:
This portfolio showcases a freelancing project focused on physical prototyping for a Ring Light. The project involved comprehending customer requirements and delivering a final product from concept to commercialization. Key project stages included designing the 3D model, procuring necessary components, and assembling a fully functional prototype.

Responsibilities:
Understanding Customer Requirements: The initial step involved thoroughly comprehending the customer's needs, which included creating a ring light that could easily attach to a selfie stick while providing optimal lighting for selfies and videos.

Designing the 3D Model: Following a comprehensive understanding of customer requirements, the subsequent phase centered on designing a 3D model for the ring light. Multiple iterations were conducted to ensure the design met the client's specifications and achieved an aesthetically pleasing result.

Procuring the Parts: After finalizing the design, the project required the procurement of all necessary components for ring light assembly. This encompassed acquiring 3D-printed parts, circuits specific to ring lights, and various electronic components.

Assembling the Prototype: With all components in hand, the focus shifted to assembling a fully functional prototype of the ring light. This assembly encompassed both mechanical and electronic design, demanding extensive research and comprehension.

Designing and Fabricating a Custom PCB: To meet the customer's specific requirements, a custom printed circuit board (PCB) was designed and fabricated to integrate seamlessly with the ring light's electronics.

Final Delivery: Following the successful assembly of the prototype, it was delivered to the client. The client expressed satisfaction with the final product, leaving a 5-star review. Importantly, the project was completed within the agreed-upon timeline and budget.

Outcome:
The Ring Light physical prototyping project culminated in the creation of a fully functional prototype, meticulously designed to adhere to the customer's needs. The addition of a custom PCB further enhanced the product's performance, meeting specific requirements. This project served as both a challenge and a rewarding experience, expanding skills and knowledge in mechanical and electronic design, ultimately resulting in a satisfied client and the successful completion of the project.
